Due to expansion plans within the sales team, we have an opening for a Sales Manager to join our world-class organisation. This is a global sales role with opportunities to travel in the UK, EU and other international markets.
The Role
The role will be based in Rotherham and will report to the Commercial Director.
The role is a blend between selling forward, getting long-term agreements and shifting “spot-priced” capacity. Knowing “your numbers” is a key indicator – where are the sales versus plan? Where do they need to be? What needs to be done? This role requires a number of “balls to be juggled” at any one time.
Candidates must be resilient and have a strong self-starting nature with the ability to spot sell along with experience of long-term account management, relationship building and creating a service level orientated agreement that has complex influences.
Collaborative working throughout the business is key for this role.
Key duties
- To support the business in customer technical programmes
- Develop and/or maintain and improve business relations with all customers of the Company and within the Company.
- Seek out and target new customers and new sales opportunities, initiate action plans to approach and secure new business
- Resolve customer complaints regarding technical sales and service.
- Cooperate with customers on new approvals and ongoing technical programmes
- Monitor customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts.
- Represent the company at business meetings and trade associations to promote products which will include international / European travel
- Have an excellent working knowledge of company systems – so as to be on top of the numbers – the first period in the company will be on inside sales to learn the systems and in house business trackers.
- Preparing and presenting reports to the sales and management team.
The Person
The right candidate will have enthusiasm to learn new things, travel to new places and have the ability to interact and learn from everybody they meet, from customers to colleagues and functional experts and management.
Candidates will need to have the following demonstrable and transferable skill sets:
- Educated to or experienced to degree level (materials / applied science / science essential).
- Experience of selling a commodity or technically based product, and having gained practice of creating differentiation for your products in this market.
- Ability to discuss technical product details with customers.
- Commercial judgement – both in terms of selling price and the impact of market movements.
- Experience of selling long-term agreements and manage long-term relationships with the customers.
- Excellent communication skills – both externally and internally.
- Empathy with the customers’ objectives and desires.
- Desire to grow both yourself and your business area, with a high need for achievement and desire to succeed.
- Educated to or experienced to degree level.
- Create an annual increase in sales values.
- Agreeing to and meeting of sales forecasts.
- Literate in computer applications.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under your own direction and with determination.
- Willingness to travel to visit customers, UK driving licence.
