Having been born and raised on a river barge, the marine industry DNA was flowing through Kees’s veins before he came into this world. His rich and long career spanned close to 45 years in the commodity and inspection service business.

In his early years, he was taken under the wings of highly experienced surveyors. His peers educated him in the ins-and- outs of this very particular part of the industry of Marine Surveyance. Kees established himself further as an expert in metals and scrap materials, by developing skills like sampling and inspection of a wide range of commodities such as steel, ores, concentrates, bulk and noble ferro alloys, base metals, minerals, precious metals and rare earth oxides, minerals and metals.
In 1998, Kees dropped his inspection boots for an office suit when he became a key staff member of one of Rotterdam’s largest inspection companies at the time. With this new opportunity, Kees also developed strong commercial skills, and he became an indispensable part of an even larger network.
Following his own vision and customer service driven approach, Kees co-founded the RC Inspection headquarters in the Netherlands in 2006. He managed the company together with his wife Karelina.
Outside office hours, they also shared a passion for the marine lifestyle, and with the permanent residence on their yacht they sailed many waters together. During the years that followed, experienced surveyors, office staff and management joined Kees to support the rapid yet steady expansions. Co-operations with partners on a global scale were established in parallel, which resulted in the formation of a professional and worldwide acknowledged inspection company.
Ever since, various offices and laboratories were opened in strategic locations, the company was granted LME listing as Sampler and Assayer, obtained various ISO accreditations and became a member of a diverse range of industry associations.
The last part of Kees’s active career suddenly became more difficult after some medical setbacks combined with a world that was accelerating in terms of communication and information. Therefore, in consultation with his doctors, he was granted an early retirement to spend his time with his family, friends and relatives. Although taking some steps back at the final stage in his career, Kees’ loyalty and determination to personnel, colleagues and customers remained of high importance and a great asset to everyone involved.
With an enormous legacy that he leaves behind, marked with a far-reaching footprint, we can say with certainty that his life has been of great significance. Looking back on his achievements, dedication, vision and knowledge, Kees will be remembered as a true Inspection Industry pioneer. His legacy, kindness and humbleness will live on in many memories and stories as he crossed many individuals across the globe.
