The MMTA thanks Simon Boon and Chris Edler, who stepped down from the board at the 2023 AGM after both serving a nine-year term, for their invaluable service to the association. Simon had served as Chair and was on the management committee most recently as Vice-Chair of the MMTA. Chris had chaired the MMTA Conference Committee.

Stephen Hall, Advanced Alloy Services Ltd
Elected Chair of the MMTA board
Stephen Hall joined Advanced Alloy Services Ltd., who supply pure metals, revert and toll-process
services to the superalloy industry, as Managing Director in 2016. In July 2019 he completed an MBO to take over ownership of the business. Stephen set up Advanced Revert LLC at the end of 2019 a Joint Venture USbusiness based in Virginia. Prior to this and since graduating with Materials Science and Engineering Honours Degree from University of Wales Swansea in 1998, Stephen spent nine years in the heat treatment industry with TTI Group Ltd. He spent the next 10 years of his career with Precision Castparts Corporation, first at Special Metals Wiggin Ltd and later Caledonian Alloys, Before being elected MMTA chair, Stephen had served as Treasurer. He is a Trustee and Treasurer of the MMTA’s charity, Friends of Mufulira, which supports a hospital in the mining region of Zambia. He is also a Freeman and Member of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.
Dan Bowman, Avon Specialty Metals Ltd
Appointed interim Treasurer to the MMTA Board 2023-2024
Dan Bowman is a Director of Avon Specialty Metals Ltd (ASM) and has spent over a decade working as a trader of metals based in Europe, South Africa and the UK with experience across finished metals, ores and concentrates. Additionally, Dan spent time as an Analyst in Mergers and Acquisitions with Hannam & Partners LLP, working with a variety of listed mining & metals companies.
Dan holds a BA Hons degree from Bristol Business School, is an Associate of the Institute of Securities and Investments.
Sean Fuller, Vital Materials
Re-elected to the MMTA board
Sean graduated in 1993 from Aston University in Birmingham, UK, BEng Manufacturing Engineering. Started his career in the UK Aluminium, Zinc, Magnesium and Copper secondary alloys
markets, before entering rare metals by joining MCP Group in 2000. After a period managing MCP’ s processing plant in Wellingborough and setting up two plants in China, relocated to Hong Kong in 2007 to oversee procurement and develop commercial opportunities in the ASEAN & China.
He remained with the company following 5N Plus’s acquisition of MCP Group in 2011 and was promoted to VP Strategic Supply and Sales Asia. In Nov 2016, he joined Vital International as the Chief Investment Officer, focusing on M&A, PMI, financing, and strategic customer roadmaps. Sean is active in many associations. He is president of the Selenium Tellurium Development Association, and serves on the boards of several private equity investments.
George Mingay, Penningtons Manches Cooper
Re-elected to the MMTA board
George is a partner in the International trade and commodities group in the London office. He is an
expert in the resolution of disputes within the commodities sector relating to oil and gas, metals and mining, soft commodities and agribusiness.
His expertise extends to the resolution of disputes in the English courts and under international arbitration rules – including those of the ICC, UNCITRAL and the LCIA – and trade arbitration rules – including those of FOSFA, GAFTA and SAL. He also advises clients on non-contentious, regulatory and compliance issues. George has advised national oil companies, international trading companies and other clients across the supply chain on disputes arising from drilling rig and FPSO contracts, sale and purchase agreements, and commercial and agency contracts. He frequently deals with non-payment, breach of warranty claims, quality and condition issues. George spent six months seconded to the in-house legal department of Shell International in London. He regularly presents at industry events in the UK and internationally on commodities, the law of the sea, oil and gas and arbitration generally.
Chris Brzozowski, ICD Europe Ltd
Chris has over ten years of experience in the minor metal and superalloy recycling sectors.
As Commercial Director for ICD Europe Ltd., Chris has been instrumental in establishing ICD as a leading supplier of Hafnium, Tantalum, Molybdenum, Niobium, Rhenium, Tungsten, Zirconium and various other minor metal products within the UK, European and Asian markets. Within his current role, he has developed ICD’s ESG strategy, and is heavily involved in compliance related topics such as UK/EU REACH and RMI. Chris holds a BSc in Mathematics-Economics from the University of Leeds, and recently graduated with an MBA with distinction from the University of Sheffield.
John Porter, CCMA LLC
As Vice President – Special Metals at CCMA, John currently leads the strategy for CCMA in the sourcing and selling of specialty metals, alloys and chemicals – with a heavy focus on the vacuum melt quality Ni, Co and Ti based superalloy industry. The core business is mainly focused on the key elements driving the melting operations which supply to casting and forging operations helping to support global aviation, power generation, energy storage and medical implant industries.
Prior to joining CCMA, John held roles with both Arconic and Hickman, Williams & Company.
John graduated in 2012 from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics.
