Jim McCombie
It is with deep sadness that we share with you the news of the sudden passing of Jim McCombie on 17th February 2024.
Jim was a veteran of the minor metals trade and an expert in speciality ores, who has been a long-standing member of the MMTA. At family company Stapleford Minerals and Metals Ltd in the UK, he specialised in trading African ores, including tantalum, niobium and tungsten minerals, rare earths, titanium and zircon sands and tin. He had previously served as managing director at A & M Minerals and Metals from 1990 until 2005.
Jim was also a long-time member of MMTA’s partner association, the Tantalum Niobium Study Centre (T.I.C.) and had been a regular presence at its events, with a wealth of insights into tantalum and niobium minerals and trade in the region. He will be remembered as a true gentleman and a friend to many in the metals trade. The MMTA would like to express is condolences to Valerie McCombie. Jim’s funeral took place in Stapleford Abbotts, Essex, on 6th March 2024.
